AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Police arrested a suspect in connection to a robbery Tuesday at the Chase Bank in Austintown.

John M. Hopkins, 48, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with aggravated robbery.

According to police, Hopkins walked into the Chase Bank on Mahoning Avenue about 11 a.m. Tuesday and handed a clerk a note demanding money. Police say Hopkins told the teller he had a gun.

Shortly after the robbery, Milton Township police contacted Austintown police and told them they were investigating a suspicious person incident the previous day at a Milton Township bank. The suspect in that incident fit the description and mode of action in the Austintown story.

The two agencies were able to identify a suspect, and agents with the FBI Youngstown and Canton offices tracked Hopkins down at a fast food restaurant in Alliance where he was arrested and taken to the Mahoning County Jail.

Police said they found money, in denominations consistent with what was taken from the bank, on Hopkins.

Hopkins was arraigned Wednesday morning in Austintown court. Bond was set at $200,000.
