ODOT winter preps

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – It’s not snowing yet, but the Ohio Department of Transportation is ready for when it does.

The state has a new truck with “wing plows.” Those are plow blades that come off the sides of the truck.

The new truck can plow the sides of the road and a lane of traffic at the same time.

In the next few weeks, all of the ODOT equipment will be inspected and checked off as road-ready, according to ODOT spokesman Brent Kovacs.

“We are prepared for anything and everything in between. If it’s a light meeting, we are ready to go. If it’s a heavy winter, our salt domes are filled and full of salt,” he said.

ODOT has also rolled out a new smart phone app, OHGO, to give real-time road conditions and traffic alerts.
