Canfield students pick their president in mock election

Trump won Canfield Village Middle School's vote

Students in grades five through eight were able to pick their choice for president and vice president. They're also getting a lesson in Democracy and how the whole process works, according to Dr. Naseeb Kaleel.

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – The results are in for a mock election held at Canfield Village Middle School last week.

Friday, the Mahoning County Board of Elections set up actual voting machines at the school. Students in grades five through eight were able to pick their choice for president and vice president, as well as their local candidates.

Experts say student elections like these can often reflect how the vote will go in that area, because children tend to vote similarly to their parents.

If that’s any indicator, it looks like Donald Trump has the advantage in Canfield.

He won the middle school election 399 to Hillary Clinton’s 331.

Jill Stein took 79 votes, and Gary Johnson had 31.
