Veterans Day is Friday, November 11 and there are many events in the Mahoning Valley honoring our veterans and active-duty military personnel:

“Steel Town Goes To War” Exhibit
Noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 12
At the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (151 W. Wood St.)
The exhibit is free to all current and former veterans and their families, and $1 off admission for all other visitors.

Laying of the Roses Ceremony
1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6
Vietnam Memorial on the square in Youngstown (adjacent to PNC Bank’s downtown Youngstown location.) The 25th year of the dedication for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Wreaths for Veterans
5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6
Western Reserve High School
A spaghetti dinner, chinese auction and 50/50.

Lordstown High School Veterans Day Assembly
9 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7
Lordstown High School: 1824 Salt Springs Rd., Warren
The program will include presentations to over 30 veterans with support from the History Channel.

Grace for Vets

Leetonia Veterans Day Celebration
9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11
Leetonia High School, 450 Walnut St.
Senator Joe Schiavoni and State Rep. John Boccieri will highlight an-all inclusive Veterans Day Celebration at Leetonia High School for students and community, beginning at 9 a.m.

Struthers Veterans Day Ceremony
11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11
Struthers High School, at the corner of Euclid and Morrison
This will be the first Veterans Day ceremony since the new displays were placed showing the names of the many Struthers citizens that have given their lives in our country’s various wars. Local veterans usually speak at the event.

Austintown Band’s Veterans Concert & Chili Cook-Off
2-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13
Austintown-Fitch High School
Chili Cook-Off from 2-4 p.m. in the cafeteria
Band concert at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium: the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands will perform, along with a high school marching band salute to veterans. NewsRadio 570 WKBN’s Ron Verb will serve as master of ceremonies.

Applebee’s: Applebee’s will be offering a free meal to all veterans and active military members. (Beverage not included)

Bob Evans: On Veterans Day: Veterans and active-duty military personnel can eat select menu items for free; Nov. 12 – Dec. 31: Veterans and active duty military personnel get 10 percent off dine-in or carry-out purchases.

Denny’s: The restaurant is inviting active, inactive and retired military personnel to stop by for a free Build Your Own Grand Slam® on Friday, Nov. 11, from 5 a.m. to noon. At participating locations nationwide, diners with a valid military ID will receive the Grand Slam.

Firebirds: Dine with a veteran or active duty service member on Veterans Day and their lunch or dinner is our treat. Free entree must be equal to or less than your purchase.

LongHorn Steakhouse: Anyone showing proof of military service can get a free appetizer or dessert on Veterans Day, no purchase necessary. All guests dining with veterans will receive 10 percent off their meals.

O’Charley’s: Free $9.99 entrée to veterans and military personnel on Veterans Day when they show their uniforms or military ID at the Boardman or Niles locations. Choice from one of nine different entrées, including Santa Fe Tilapia, Farmhouse Chopped Steak and Nashville Hot Chicken.

Olive Garden: Active-duty military and military veterans get a free entrée from select menu items on Veterans Day.

Panera: All veterans and military service members receive a free “You-Pick-Two” on Veterans Day at any Mahoning Valley Panera Bread by wearing uniform, or showing military ID or discharge papers.

Primanti Bros.: Free classic Primanti Bros. sandwiches to all veterans and active duty military that provide valid proof of service on Veteran’s Day beginning at 11 a.m. Does not require purchase of any additional menu items.

Ponderosa Steakhouse: Free buffet 4 p.m. to close (beverage not included)

Red Lobster: This Veterans Day, Red Lobster is thanking veterans, active duty military and reservists by offering a free appetizer or dessert with a valid military ID on November 10 and 11. For participating Red Lobster locations, please www.redlobster.com.

Ruby Tuesday: Free appetizer to $10.

Sheetz: Free 6″ tukey sub, regular fountain drink. Locations with a car wash will also offer a free car wash.

Sunrise Inn: As a way to say, “Thank you for all of your service and sacrifice,” all veterans and active duty military may enjoy one free meal at Sunrise Inn, downtown Warren location, on Thursday, Nov. 10 or Friday, Nov. 11. A valid ID must be presented. Alcoholic beverages are not included.

Starbucks: Free tall brewed coffee. Starbucks will contribute $5 to help veterans programs from every Starbucks card or egift card purchased.

Texas Roadhouse: Free special veterans lunch menu, including a beverage and sides.

Texas Steakhouse and Saloon: Fee meal from a select menu.

Quaker Steak & Lube: Quaker Steak & Lube in Cortland is offering free limited menu items for veterans and active duty military members.

White Castle: Free breakfast combo or Castle combo meals

Yolo Grille and Taproom: Yolo Grille, in partnership with Y-103, is offering a free lunch buffet for military members and veterans with a valid ID. The buffet will be Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. An additional lunch buffet will also be held from 4 to 6 p.m.Friday. Cost is a $5 donation for non-military members, with proceeds benefiting the Veteran’s Holiday Food Drive.
