Jockeys dress up for presidential horse race in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A unique horse race at Hollywood Gaming in Austintown had two jockeys dressed up as the presidential candidates one day before the election.

One of the jockeys, dressed up as Democrat Hillary Clinton, donned a bright red pantsuit. The other, representing Republican Donald Trump, wore the candidate’s signature hair over his helmet.

“Being in Ohio, with Ohio such a swing state…we’ve got a tight battle, a tight horse race for the presidency,” said Vice President of Ohio Racing Operations Mark Loewe. “What better way to decide it than actually having the horses do it for us?”

The real presidential campaign lasted over a year but this race was done in less than a minute.

The two horses ran a half-length of the track, with Clinton pulling out the win by a nose.

There were no payouts for Monday afternoon’s race – it was all for fun and a good cause. People bought raffle tickets for prizes and the money is going to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
