Niles police raid apartment, charge man with drug trafficking

Investigators say the apartment was the site of an overdose call in September, and several drug buys were made there.

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – A raid of a Niles apartment on Friday morning resulted in a drug trafficking arrest.

The Niles Police Department’s Drug Unit raided 178 Royal Mall Drive, taking 24-year-old Jaylen Dukes into custody on a felony warrant for trafficking in drugs. Police said a search warrant was granted after a two-and-a-half month investigation by the Niles S.I.U./Drug Unit into multiple purchases of heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine and prescription narcotics.

Seized during the raid were heroin packaging materials, a scale with unknown powder and cash, police said.

Investigators say the apartment was also the site of an overdose call in September.

Police said the raid is the second one conducted after the units were reactivated due to the passage of the 0.5 percent tax levy.
