MERCER, Pa. (WYTV) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Mercer County is ready for the first snow of the season with plenty of salt in its dome.
PennDOT has done dry runs of the routes, making sure there aren’t any road hazards.
This year, the price of salt is cheaper so the supply is in good shape.
“Last year we were over $67 a ton. This year we’re at $59 a ton. They did reverse bid on that, so it was allowing the counties to get a better price on their salt,” Darryl Chapman said.
PennDOT’s Mercer location has 35 trucks and 35 routes in the county.
