Youngstown buses bring nearly 30 after-school kids home late

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A new after-school program created more busing problems Monday for Youngstown City Schools, with nearly 30 of the 900 participating students arriving home late.

The program ended at 5 p.m. but by 7:30 p.m., some students were still not home.

That prompted several parents to show up at the school bus garage off of Martin Luther King Boulevard, looking for their children. The kids who were not dropped off at their homes finally arrived at the bus garage close to 8 p.m.

“Either we had the wrong address for them or the parents weren’t home, so they didn’t get home when they were scheduled to be home,” said Youngstown Schools spokesperson Denise Dick. “They came back here and we had to call their parents to pick them up.”

The district says it plans to make sure they have the correct address and parent contact information by Tuesday so this doesn’t happen again.
