YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – With some winter weather in the forecast this weekend, the Mahoning County Engineer’s Office says its crews are ready for snow.
The salt supply is in good shape, since a surplus was left over after last year’s mild winter.
The price of salt is also down compared to a major increase road crews saw last year.
“If we have another light winter next year…is when we’ll see the effects of cost savings because we still had to purchase the material last year,” said Mahoning County Engineer Pat Ginnetti. “Even though we didn’t use as much, we still bought it. So we’ll notice the effects of any cost savings in the upcoming year, so that’s what we’re looking forward to.”
Two years ago, there was a foot of snow on the ground. This year, there hasn’t been a flake yet.
That means road crews are still able to do repair work.
