YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Flu season is in full swing in Mahoning County, but the number of flu shots issued this year in Mahoning County is down.

The Mahoning County District Board of Health has given out 1,390 flu shots between September 1 and early November. That is a decrease of 220 vaccines from last year.

The Board of Health attributed the decrease of flu shots to a lack of the nasal mist option this year.

“This year, it was not available because of some differences with efficacy they found,” said Erica Horner, director of nursing and community health with the Mahoning County District Board of Health.
