Warren’s ‘Eds and Meds’ campaign seeks to attract medical professionals

Officials say setting up a corridor of medical facilities and education centers creates an opportunity for investment and expansion in Warren

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – If you have driven along East Market Street in Warren recently, you may have noticed banners dubbing the city as an “Eds and Meds Community.”

City officials and local leaders in the health and education sectors announced their collaboration aimed at marketing their assets.

Within a four-mile radius of that corridor, you can find Trumbull Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Warren Hospital, two Akron Children’s Hospital facilities, four of the city’s K-12 buildings, Eastern Gateway Community College and the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center.

Officials say this set-up gives them the best opportunity for great minds to work together when it comes to attracting investment and expansion in Warren.

“I think the ultimate goal is to improve the healthcare of the community to make Warren strong, to continue to have people want to invest here in Warren, so I think it just makes for an overall better community,” said Kathy Cook, president of St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

The group plans on aligning college coursework to fill gaps in the medical field while creating incentives for medical professionals to relocate here.
