Karns City knocks out Hickory in 1st Round

The Hornets did not score in the second half, and lost, 35-17 in the PIAA First Round.

Slippery Rock, PA (WYTV) – The Hickory football team fell to Karns City, 35-17 Saturday in a Class AAA First Round Game at Slippery Rock University.

The Hornets jumped out to an early lead on a 4 yard touchdown by Chuck Carr in the first quarter. Hickory took a 7-0 lead, but the Gremlins scored two un-answered touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. Later in the quarter, Will Gruber scored on a 98 yard kickoff return to tie the game at 14 apiece.

Jacob Scarton kicked in a 26 yard field goal to make it a 17-14 game at halftime. Senior Chuck Carr went down on the last play of the first half, and did not return to the game on an apparent neck injury.

Karns City came out and dominated the second half, holding the Hornets scoreless in a 35-17 victory.

Hickory finishes the season at 11-1, as well as District 10 and Region 2 Champions.
