YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV – AP) – YSU has made it to the football playoffs for the first time since 2006.
Youngstown State Penguins (8-3) will host Samford (7-4) Saturday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the FCS playoffs. The game will air live on ESPN3.
Five-time defending national champion North Dakota State is the No. 1 seed in the FCS playoffs.
The NCAA announced the 24-team playoff field on Sunday. The top eight seeds receive first-round byes and host second-round games. Joining the Bison in the top four are Eastern Washington at No. 2, Jacksonville State, last season’s runner-up, at No. 3 and James Madison at No. 4.
No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 6 The Citadel, No. 7 North Dakota and No. 8 South Dakota State also have first-round byes.
The Penguins were one of four Missouri Valley Football Conference teams selected. The other three teams from the conference to qualify for the playoffs were South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Illinois State.
Tickets for the game are available starting today at 2 p.m. for loge holders, season ticket holders and Penguin Club members only. Online sales start at 2 p.m. for the general public.
The Stambaugh Stadium Athletic Ticket Office will be open from 2-6 p.m. to sell tickets or to assist fans.
Tickets for the game will be available for purchase by phone (330-941-1978), on-line or at the Stambaugh Stadium Athletic Ticket Office. Fans should note that all tickets must be picked up at the YSU Athletic Ticket Office. No tickets will be mailed.
Today (Sunday) the only YSU fans who can purchase tickets their seats plus any additional tickets for the game are loge holders, season ticket holders and Penguin Club members via phone or at Stambaugh Stadium. No on-line seat purchase is available.
Tickets office and phone sales for the general public start at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Prices for the game are as follows: Reserved Seats – $15 advanced/$18 gameday
The ticket office is open this week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The ticket office will not be open on Thanksgiving, but on-line sales are available that day. On Saturday, the ticket office opens at 9 a.m.
