YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The balloons for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade feature the classics such as Snoopy to more modern characters like The Elf On The Shelf.

New to the parade this year are Trolls, and coming back are Ronald McDonald, Thomas the Tank Engine, Hello Kitty and Sinclair Oil’s Dino.

Follow the money.

Let’s say Daybreak wanted to put up a giant floating Mayor Lenny Rome.

First-time balloons cost around $190,000. That covers admission into the parade and the cost of balloon construction.

After the first year, if Lenny Rome wants to float again, Daybreak can expect to pay Macy’s about $90,000 to get that character back into parade lineup.

If you consider that the balloons are out for only an hour or so, that’s about $1,500 a minute to have giant Rome above your head.
