What We’re Thankful 4 Miler in Boardman

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Before sitting down for a Thanksgiving meal, about 500 people ran in the “What We’re Thankful 4 Miler.”

Proceeds from the race are split between Second Harvest Food Bank and the Livestrong Foundation at the YMCA.

Organizers say they had around the same amount of people running in the race last year and were able to donate in total $5,000 and more than 1,000 pounds of food.

It’s only the second year for the event and was started as a collaboration between the YMCA and Second Sole to bring a Thanksgiving Day run to Mahoning County.

“It’s exciting to see everyone turn up on Thanksgiving morning so they can go back to the table for that second helping,” said Mark Lipinsky, of Second Sole.

Organizers say the community’s response has been great, and they plan on making this an annual tradition.
