YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – While Black Friday may be a busy day for retailers, it is the biggest day of the year for America’s plumbers.
The plumbing company Roto-Rooter says business on Black Friday will be up 50 percent compared to an ordinary Friday.
During the whole four-day Thanksgiving weekend, business increases 21 percent over any other Thursday through Sunday.
The number-one reason for calls is kitchen sink drains and garbage disposals.
People try to push things down garbage disposals in sinks and clog drains — things such as turkey skins, celery, fruit and potato peels. There’s always someone who tries to flush things down the toilet, such as turkey carcasses and leftovers.
All of this happens on Thanksgiving, but people wait until the next day to call because they don’t want to pay extra for holiday service, or they don’t think they’ll find a plumber available.
Roto-Rooter, based in Cincinnati, has more than 34 hundred company-owned branches and about the same number of franchisees.
