Police: Woman stabs man at Austintown racino dorms

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A man and a woman who travel from racetrack to racetrack with horses got into an altercation early Thanksgiving morning at Hollywood Gaming on Route 46, leaving a man with a stab wound to his leg, according to a police report.

Officers were called to the dormitory area of the racino about 1 a.m. on reports of a man with a stab wound.

When police arrived, they found 30-year-old Edis Nmi Quinteros in the lobby of the dorms bleeding with a stab wound to the knee area of his leg.

Quienteros told police that earlier that evening he escorted his girlfriend, 35-year-old Melanie Medley, to their dorm room, noting that she was heavily intoxicated. He said once inside the room the two began to argue and Medley accused him of being involved with another woman.

Quinteros said Medley¬†told him she was pregnant and pulled out a knife threatening to “kill the baby” if he didn’t continue a relationship with her, according to the report. He initially told police Medley stabbed him in the leg during the altercation but later said he didn’t know how he got stabbed.

Witnesses in the lobby told police that Quinteros came downstairs with blood soaking through his pants and told them that Medley stabbed him. Medley came down moments later and said she attacked Quinteros in self defense and that Quinteros stabbed himself in the hallway.

Medics were called to the scene, but Quinteros refused treatment.

A surveillance video shows Quinteros escorting Medley to their room and about a half hour later, Quinteros comes out of the room, bleeding from his leg holding a knife. The video shows him going to the lobby of the dorms and drops the knife on the floor.

Police arrested Medley and placed her in a cruiser where officers say she became combative, banging her head against the divider and kicking violently, all the while screaming, “kill me and my baby,” according to the report. At one point, Medley kicked an officer in the chest.

Officers restrained Medley and she was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Medley is charged with felonious assault and assault on a police officer. She is currently being held in the Mahoning County Jail.

A bronze-handled knife was recovered at the scene and placed into evidence.
