MCDONALD, Ohio (WYTV) –¬†With the village mayor moving to a state representative position next year, McDonald council will be meeting next month to name a temporary replacement before an official election is held in May to name a successor.

Mayor Glenn Holmes was recently elected to serve as representative to the 63rd Ohio House District. He has been mayor for 14 years and also serves as president of council.

Holmes said he’s proud to have served as mayor and is excited for the future. He also believes in his administration and all they have left to accomplish.

“We’ve got a transition plan in place and projects set for the next year or two,” Holmes said. “And the administration, who is the glue with the legislative authority, will make sure everything stays in tact.”

In December, a new council president will be named for 2017.

That person will serve as mayor from January-May when a special election will be held to fill the remainder of Holmes’ unexpired term through December 2019.
