WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – A Niles man that police said was under the influence of the drugs was arrested on Monday after officers were sent to investigate two people who were “freaking out.”
Officers arrived at a home on Longwood Avenue on Monday to find 25-year-old Nicholas Kowal screaming without a shirt on, according to a police report.
Kowal’s girlfriend told police that they bought a white rock-like substance that was said to be Molly (ecstasy) from a man that lived down the street and said they snorted it. Her father told police that the two started acting oddly, and Kowal was punching the house while screaming and yelling.
Police said an officer tried to calm Kowal down, but he continued screaming and swinging his arms around. Police said Kowal then picked up a handful of rocks and gravel and threw them at the face of an officer.
The officer struck Kowal twice with a taser and handcuffed him before paramedics arrived, according to the report.
Kowal and his girlfriend were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Kowal is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business.
