State Representatives John Boccieri and Michele Lepore-Hagan are looking for ways to help save the aging dam

Woodside Lake in Austintown Township

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – State lawmakers have gotten behind the effort save Woodside Lake in Austintown.

The lake was pulled from a scheduled auditor’s sale on Wednesday. The aging dam has been declared a danger by the state.

Auditor Ralph Meacham said he pulled the property to give surrounding homeowners more time to find a way to fix the dam.

State Representatives John Boccieri and Michele Lepore-Hagan are looking for ways to help. They’ve sent environmental assessments on to state officials, showing the negative impact on wildlife if the lake is drained.

“We will continue to maintain the open lines of communication we have with the surrounding property owners about the lake as we move forward,” Boccieri said. “Our next steps are to gather the technical information we have, continue to work with all parties to ensure a favorable purchase of the property that is beneficial for all involved, and secure funding for the dam’s repair.”

The auditor’s office says they will likely have to put the lake up for auction again in about 60 days, given it has been foreclosed for years and failed to sell in two previous sheriff’s sales.
