YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown police are investigating after a call to a vacant house fire early Thursday morning led to them finding a woman lying outside nearby.

Crews were called about 12:30 a.m. to a house on Florencedale Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from the house. But when crews approached the structure, they discovered a woman lying on the sidewalk in front of the house.

Investigators said the woman had been assaulted. They later determined that she got into a fight with another woman at a bar nearby, and the injuries were consistent with that assault. She did not appear to have any injuries from the fire.

They’re looking into whether the fire may be related to the woman being found nearby. Investigators believe she walked over to the home from her house, which is nearby, and at some point, passed out. The woman told others that she went outside to smoke before she was found near the burning house.

Paramedics took the woman to St. Elizabeth Hospital, and she was released Thursday.

A cause in the fire hasn’t been determined yet.
