Generous donations make Santa Workshop in Youngstown possible

Middle school students at Rayen Early College in Youngstown got to pick out gifts for friends, family and themselves - all for free

Students at Rayen Early College in Youngstown got to do their Christmas shopping for free, thanks to community donations.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The gift of giving was in full swing Friday at Rayen Early College’s Santa Workshop.

Kids from the middle school in Youngstown were happy to pick through clothes, toys and household items. They could choose up to 12 items for free.

The children picked out presents for family, friends and even themselves.

Community members donated all of the gifts.

Teacher and Santa Workshop organizer Maureen Donofrio says they were so excited.

“‘Look what I got for my grandma! Look what I got for my mom!’ And it’s all thanks to the generosity of those that helped us out.”

Camryn Williams, a student, says the act of kindness means a lot.

“The teachers helped a lot of kids out. They didn’t have to do this, but they offered to do this just to make kids inside excited.”

The school is already collecting items for next year’s Santa Workshop. Toys and clothes can be dropped off at Rayen Early College on S. Hazelwood Avenue.
