Police: Boardman gym employee shot man who he said tried robbing him

Officers were called just after 1 a.m. to the 3-Thirty-Elite Training Center on East Midlothian Boulevard

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Police said an employee of 3-Thirty-Elite Sport Performance Center shot a man inside the gym, who he said tried to rob him.

Officers were called just after 1 a.m. to the 3-Thirty-Elite Training Center on East Midlothian Boulevard.

The man, who was not named in a police report, was found inside the gym on E. Midlothian Boulevard with a gunshot wound to the head. He grabbed a gun that was next to him and pointed it at arriving officers, and they had to duck for cover until officers could disarm the man, according to the report.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was listed in critical condition at the time of the report.

Police said a large amount of heroin, $230 in cash and a bag of marijuana were found in the man’s clothing.

Witnesses confirmed the gym employee’s version of the story, saying the man pulled out a gun in a robbery attempt. They said the employee had his own gun, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Police are currently investigating.
