East Palestine, OH (WYTV) – Faith Anderson has made all kinds of history for East Palestine. She’s the school’s first ever diver, earning All State and All American honors. Plus, she’s the first female in the history of East Palestine to receive an athletic scholarship. On top of all that, you can now add Student Athlete of the Week to her list.
“I’ve always wanted to go farther and get better,” said Anderson. “So I think it’s my determination and my work ethic that has really set me a part.”
Faith started diving just 4 years ago. She competed as a gymnast growing up, now she’s one of the top divers in the State.
“I always jumped off the diving boards and I think that, now I’m seriously jumping off the diving boards and doing some crazy stuff.”
Nowadays, Faith dives year-round and is a 3 time State Qualifier in Canton. She finished 9th last year…and has done it ALL as the first and ONLY diver at East Palestine.
“It was a really intimidating when I first started,” she said. “Nobody really even knew. Like oh, we have a diving team, but now I have all the support in the world, so it’s great.”
Outside the pool, Faith sets the bar just as high. She ranks first in her class with a 4.0 GPA and is President of National Honor Society.
“I feel like student-athlete is a title that you have to take pride,” said Anderson. “I try to get really good grades and do the best I can whenever I’m diving.”
All that hard work has paid off for Faith. She’ll dive on scholarship at James Madison University next year.
“I definitely would not be where I’m at with all the support that I’ve gotten from the whole community at East Palestine and my coaches and my family.”
