Frigid conditions expected for YSU-EWU

CHENEY, Washington (WYTV) – A frigid forecast is expected for YSU’s FCS Semifinal matchup with Eastern Washington.

Temperatures are expected to dip at or near zero degrees, and the game could set a record for the coldest game that Eastern Washington has ever played in.  The current record-low  temperature was twelve degrees on December 12, 2013 against South Dakota State in Cheney, Washington.

Playing in such conditions is nothing new for Youngstown State and Eastern Washington.  The Penguins and Eagles faced off in the 1997 FCS Playoffs with the temperature reaching just 28 degrees.

EWU officials say that both teams will have heaters on their respective sidelines to help control the cold as best as possible.

A crowd of nearly 5,000 is expected at Roos Field, and the university is expected to provide warm shelter to fans at different points during the day.

Saturday’s kickoff is slated for 6:30PM ET.

YSU enters Saturday’s action with a record of 11-3 overall.  Eastern Washington is 12-1 overall, and has won eleven straight games.
