Christmas dinner, delivered: Ham, turkey given to Youngstown families

Local nonprofit groups will distribute the meat to Youngstown families in need

An Ohio company donated hundreds of turkeys and hams to Youngstown families in need.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Dozens of Youngstown families in need will receive hams and turkeys for Christmas, thanks to an Ohio company.

Buckeye Health Plan, a company that manages government healthcare programs like Medicaid, donated 130 hams and 195 turkeys this year.

The meat was delivered to the Arlington Heights Recreation Center in Youngstown and local nonprofit groups will pass it out to families.

“Here in Youngstown, we got the turkeys from Sparkle grocery store, which they delivered earlier today,” said Valorie Rose, with Buckeye Health Plan. “These turkeys and hams are for the ones that are in need. All the agencies will be picking up the turkeys and hams today here at the Arlington Recreational Center.”

A total of eight agencies will use the turkeys and hams for their Christmas food giveaways.
