Trustee worried about potential fracking well in Liberty Twp.

LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – A Liberty Township trustee is concerned about a company wanting to drill a new fracking well in Trumbull County.

Jodi Stoyak is worried about the wells and waterways in her township after learning PAC Drilling has applied for a permit with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Most wells drilled in recent years are into the Marcellus and Utica shales. This well would be drilled into Clinton Sandstone to get natural gas.

The permit is for a horizontal well, meaning the well would go out sideways to the ground after being drilled deep into the earth.

The company is looking to drill off of Warner Road near Crab Creek.

“I just want the residents around Warner Road to know that this permit has been pulled, it has been applied for, and to be aware that something could happen if they do grant this application,” Stoyak said.

The application says the well will cost somewhere between $1 million and $3 million.

ODNR likely won’t make a decision for a few months.

The state’s website says that thousands of wells have been drilled without any significant impacts to drinking water.
