Girard PD looking for robbers who forced store clerk to floor at gunpoint

Investigators released surveillance video of the robbery that happened about 10 p.m. Monday at the Hiland Dairy on N. Highland Ave

GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) – Girard police are asking for help identifying suspects in an armed robbery.

The department is offering a $500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the people responsible.

Investigators released surveillance video of the robbery that happened just before 10 p.m. Monday at The Hiland Dairy on N. Highland Ave, off of Churchill Hubbard Road.

“We have no suspects right now,” said John Norman, acting chief of the Girard Police Department.

The video shows two masked men forcing the store clerk to the ground at gunpoint, then taking money from the cash register. One is seen bagging cash from the counter while the other took the employee to a back room for more money.

The clerk called 911, saying the men had a gun to his head.

“Hopefully somebody out there knows, or maybe recognizes a walk or the build of one or both suspects,” Norman said.

Investigators believe the men who robbed the store in Girard could be the same suspects who, just eight minutes before, tried doing the same thing at the Marathon off 422 in McKinley Heights.

The Weathersfield Police Department said they were unsuccessful in their first attempt.

Police are warning employees at other stores to be on alert.

“Just be aware of who’s coming in the store. Maybe keep a vigilant look outside, just keep looking out. Anything suspicious, if you see one suspicious car or anything, just call us,” Norman said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Girard police at 330-545-0211 or message them on the department’s Facebook page.
