Missing elderly Cortland couple found by police

The alert was issued after Wade Brainard, 89, and Helen Brainard, 82, didn't return home Saturday evening

CORTLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – The Cortland couple for which Bazetta Township Police issued a statewide Missing Adult Alert late Saturday night was found safe Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, the Cortland Police Department posted on its Facebook page a little after 12:30 p.m. that the couple — Wade Brainard, 89, and Helen Brainard, 82 — was found and is safe with family.

Trumbull County 911 said a caller recognized the van in Cortland from a previous newscast and called it in.

According to the 911 call, the caller is a relative of the Brainard’s, saying: “Hello, my name is Amy Parks. I’m actually related to Helen Brainard. I’m almost positive she is in front of me!”

According to officials, they were assessed by EMT’s near the Hillside Cemetery.

Trumbull County 911 said the alert was issued after the couple didn’t return home Saturday evening. They left between 2-4 p.m. Saturday afternoon in a silver Dodge Grand Caravan.

Officials say both have been diagnosed with dementia.
