Woman escapes apartment fire in Bazetta Township

Emergency crews are called around 5:40 a.m. to an apartment inside the Ivy Hill Circle complex off Elm Road

BAZETTA TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – A woman was able to escape her burning apartment Monday morning, even though the entire unit sustained extensive damage.

Emergency crews were called around 5:40 a.m. to an apartment inside the Ivy Hill Circle complex off Elm Road.

The woman was able to make it out safely, but flames and smoke completely destroyed her apartment. The surrounding apartments were not damaged.

Bazetta Fire Chief Dennis Lewis said the fire started in the bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation.

The complex isn’t far from Bazetta’s new fire station, and firefighters say that played a big role in keeping the fire from spreading.

“When we responded to this area right here I knew kind of what gear to get on right away, and before I knew it we pulled in and it was really surprising to me. Really fast. I’m just not used to that. Had to be two to three minutes to get on the scene,” said Bazetta Fire Captain Michael Mannella.

The American Red Cross is offering assistance to the people who were living there.
