YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society has announced its 2017 Historic Preservation Awards. Four local properties have won awards this year.
These awards honor those in Mahoning and Trumbull counties who take an active role in preserving historic buildings, sites and districts.
There are three Community Revitalization Awards — two of them Catholic churches: for the repairs made at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica and for the restoration of the stained glass windows at St. Patrick Church.
Also getting a revitalization award is the Lewis House on College Street in Poland.
The Commercial Revitalization Award goes to the Peter Allen Inn in Kinsman.
The winners will be honored at the MVHS’ 142nd annual meeting on June 20. The meeting will be from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 West Federal Street.
The public is invited to attend the dinner, which costs $28 for MVHS members and $32 for guests.
