Car crashes into Warren Giant Eagle

A police report said the man crashed into the building in what appeared to be a suicide attempt

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A 49-year-old Warren man poured gasoline around the inside of his vehicle and drove into the Giant Eagle on Elm Road.

A traffic crash report said the man was attempting suicide, and he told police that he wanted the car to blow up on impact.

The crash happened just after 12:30 a.m. Friday.

A witness said they saw a car speeding down the road behind the grocery store and crash into the building. It struck a guardrail, concrete posts and an electrical transformer.

At one point, the transformer was on top of the car and sparking. A few customers lost power in the immediate area.

The man was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.
