Police: 1 hurt, 1 in custody after shooting in Newton Twp.

NEWTON TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – A mid-morning shooting in Newton Township left one person hurt and another in police custody on Saturday.

It happened at the Blue Water Manor mobile home park off Carson Salt Springs Road, just east of Newton Falls.

According to a call sheet from the Trumbull County 911 Dispatch Center, 76-year-old Clarence Peyatt is accused of shooting 59-year-old Ralph “Eddie” Chipps, Jr., both from Newton Township.

The call sheet says as Chipps was walking his dog, Peyatt yelled out his name and shot at him several times.

Chipps was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital for what a neighbor says were severe injuries.

Peyatt was booked into the Trumbull County Jail around 11:30 a.m.

A supervisor from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department said they would be handling the case and will release more information once the investigation is complete.
