BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Police have arrested a man they say stole a car from a gas station and then robbed a bank in Boardman.
Michael Varchulik was arrested Thursday afternoon after investigators found the stolen car on Hunter Avenue in Youngstown.
Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols said Varchulik stole a maroon-colored Oldsmobile from Speedway on Midlothian Boulevard. The car had been left running in the parking lot.
He then drove to McDonald’s on Western Reserve Road, where he tried to rob the restaurant.
Nichols said after the unsuccessful attempt, he went to Huntington Bank on US-224 and South Avenue, where he passed a note to a teller and made off with some money.
Varchulik was arrested after a brief search.
