Niles Court closes for roof replacement after ceiling starts falling in

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – There will be no hearings in Niles Municipal Court on Wednesday because of a leak in the ceiling.

Crews were already working to replace the roof on the Niles Safety Building. City Service Director Edward Stredney said melting snow on the portion that hadn’t been fixed yet created a leak and caused a ceiling tile to collapse in the clerk’s area of the building.

“Through the old part of the roof, it leaked down into the tile, which eventually gave way and broke,” he said. “Shortly here, though, they’ll have the roof completely replaced, and we’ll be able to replace the tile and clean up the carpet.”

Stredney said if the weather stays nice, the roof should be completed in a few days.

In the meantime, the city council meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to the high school auditorium.
