Girard golf dome collapses due to snow pile-up, other facilities OK

The complex's owner is still waiting to see if the dome can be replaced or repaired

The Creekside Golf Dome in Girard collapsed around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) – All of the rain, sleet and snow from Friday night into Saturday morning caused a well-known indoor golf dome in Girard to collapse on Saturday.

Tony Latell, owner of Creekside Golf Dome, said one of the managers noticed a small dip in the dome Saturday morning.

“From there, we got together as a family — taking a look at it — trying to decide what we may do,” he said.

They ended up closing the golf dome. Latell wanted to try and get a crane close to the dome to help get rid of the snow.

But before anyone could get up there, the amount of snow and ice became too much.

“That caused the weight problem that created the dimple that eventually caused the dome to collapse,” Latell said.

Thankfully, no one was inside the dome when it collapsed around 2:30 p.m., so no one was injured.

The virtual golf course and banquet hall inside the sports complex will remain open since this is still a busy time of year for the business.

The door to the dome has been boarded up as workers try to move forward.

“We’ll have to talk to the insurance company about where we’re at and what the next step will be,” Latell said.

Ohio Edison and Dominion Energy were on the scene, but have since left.

Creekside Golf Dome is located on North State Street.
